Water-based polyurethane: Hands down a better option than the commonly used oil-based
polyurethane, with only a 5-15% cost difference.

Strand woven bamboo floors: are the product of a process that leaves very little wasted.
When standard natural and carbonized bamboo flooring is made and bound, there is a "filleting"
process that leaves behind a good deal of excess material – this material is intertwined,
compressed and bound with a binding agent that is a safe, UV resistant and scratch-resistant
resin which also makes the bamboo even more resistant to moisture. The compression process
results in a very hard, very durable type of bamboo flooring typified by grain patterns that
are more like those of a hardwood floor. The strand woven bamboo is then cut into planks and
is ready to go.
Unlike traditional bamboo floors, a majority of strand woven bamboo planks can be
sanded and refinished – making it a long term option. Also, the price of the strand woven
floors is similar to any good quality pre-finished wood option, ranging from $7.50 per square
foot installed and up.
